Notes From An Airport
by Nathan on Dec.24, 2008, under Travel
- I’m blogging this from the D terminal of the Lambert-St. Louis International Airport on my still semi-new MacBook. This is my first notebook computer, so I’m ridiculously excited to be taking my computer on a trip with me.
- My flight was supposed to leave at 9:10 AM, but it has been delayed until 11:15 AM. I don’t really mind though. I’m a pretty easy going traveller. I am taking the extra time to enjoy a gingersnap latte and cheese danish from Starbucks.
- The east terminal is packed today. I guess that isn’t surprising being that tomorrow is Christmas. If you fly Southwest from St. Louis a lot, you should know that the D and E concourses are connected. The part of the D concourse near the E concourse is pretty much empty, but there are lots of chairs. It’s a good place to find a seat away from the mass of people in the E concourse.
- There must be a security office near by, because this big security dude and his dog keep walking past me. The dog is awesome. He (or she) is a german shepherd. If you read this blog or follow me on Twitter, you know that I’m a cat person. I love dogs too though, I just don’t have the energy or time for a dog of my own. I totally what to play with the drug/bomb sniffing dog. I’m in this big open space, and we could chase each other by running around chairs, or we could play tug of war with something, or we could just wrestle. I wonder if the security dude would mind if I ran up to his dog and tried to wrestle with him. I wonder if the dog would tear my face off if the security dude asked him too. Probably.
- I’m going to Nebraska to visit my Dad and Aunt for Christmas. The high in Omaha today is 12 degrees. Stupid winter. I’m going to Florida for the Gator Bowl next week. It had better be warm.
- I miss Earl. He totally wanted to curl up on my lap this morning, and I totally got up and left for 3 days. I’m the worst cat roommate ever. The pet sitter is visiting him though. That’s right, I have a pet sitter for my cat. Shut up.
- I’m struggling with whether or not to pay for the WiFi access. It is $7.95 for the day and I would use it for about an hour. That seems ridiculous, but I did just pay $8 for a latte and cheese danish, and I would like to publish this post from the airport. Hmm… decisions, decisions.
- That iPhone tethering app would be nice right about now. I heard that AT&T is going to release an official one, but it will cost another $30/month. I can’t pay $30/month for something I will only use a few times a year.
- Come to think of it, I might not have much internet access for the next three days. What is it with old people and their fear of technology? I wonder what technologies I’ll fear when I’m old.
- I really want to plug my MacBook into the outlet right next to me, but I’m afraid that the security dude and his dog will come bark at me.
- I made Scotch-a-Roos to take with me to Nebraska. I’m going to blog the recipe soon. They taste great, but I feel like they are coming out too firm or hard. Then again, maybe they are always like that, I can’t remember.
- Okay, there it is, my first blog post from an airport. It was fun. We should do this again sometime
